The judging committee for the Bodhigram-BRP Media Award 2025 agreed at the outset that since the award is named after Shri B.R. P. Bhaskar, one of the most accomplished and respected journalists India has seen, the standards have to be exacting. The committee laid stress on quality, not wordage or quantity. Against such a backdrop, the committee unanimously chose a weekend report in the Mathrubhumi, written by Shri M.B. Babu. Headlined “Aarundu Jnangalkku?”, the searing report traces the struggle of a single mother and her daughter to obtain a caste certificate for the daughter. The report treats the matter with laudable sensitivity, steering clear of the temptation to sensationalise and taking extraordinary precautions to safeguard the privacy of the family. Even in an anecdote given as an aside, the writer takes care not to identify the moustachioed former tormentor — a measure of the alertness and commitment of the writer to the highest conventions in journalism. However, the overall quality of the entries was a let down, especially those from the visual media. As the award is being conferred in the name of a reputable journalist such as Shri Bhaskar, the committee unanimously decided that giving an award to any entry that does not meet the standards would not do justice to the late journalist’s memory and legacy. Hence, no recipient has been chosen this year in the visual media category.

ദി ടെലിഗ്രാഫ് മുൻ എഡിറ്റർ ആർ രാജഗോപാൽ ചെയർപേഴ്സണും ഡോ.ജെ. ദേവിക, എസ് ആർ സഞ്ജീവ്, ജെ. എസ്. ഇന്ദുകുമാർ എന്നിവർ അംഗങ്ങളായ ജഡ്‌ജിങ് കമ്മിറ്റിയാണ് ഏകകണ്ഠമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്. "ആരുണ്ട് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക്?" എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടോടെ, മകൾക്ക് ജാതി സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ് ലഭിക്കാൻ ഒരു അമ്മയുടെയും മകളുടെയും പോരാട്ടത്തെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു റിപ്പോർട്ട്. സെൻസേഷണലിസത്തിൽ നിന്നും കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ സ്വകാര്യത സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ മുൻകരുതലെടുത്ത റിപ്പോർട്ടായിരുന്നു. പത്രപ്രവർത്തനത്തിൽ ലേഖകന്റെ ജാഗ്രതയും പ്രതിബദ്ധതയുമായിരുന്നു റിപ്പോർട്ട്.ബി ആർ പിയെപ്പോലെ പ്രശസ്തനായ ഒരു പത്രപ്രവർത്തകന്റെ പേരിലാണ് അവാർഡ് എന്നതിനാൽ നിലവാരമില്ലാത്ത ഏതൊരു എൻട്രിക്കും അവാർഡ് നൽകുന്നത് ബി ആർ പിയുടെ ഓർമ്മകൾക്ക് നീതി നൽകുന്നതല്ലെന്ന് കമ്മിറ്റി ഏകകണ്ഠമായി തീരുമാനിച്ചു.അതിനാൽ, ഈ വർഷം ദൃശ്യമാധ്യമ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ ആരെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല. ഭാസ്കർ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ നൽകുന്ന 25,000 രൂപയും പ്രശസ്തിപത്രവുമാണ് അവാർഡ്. ബി ആർ പിയുടെ ഒന്നാം ചരമവാർഷികദിനമായ ജൂൺ നാലിന് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് നടക്കുന്ന അനുസ്മരണ സമ്മേളനത്തിൽ പ്രമുഖ ഗാന്ധിമാർഗപ്രവർത്തകൻ പി.വി.രാജഗോപാൽ അവാർഡ് നൽകും. അടുത്ത വർഷം മുതൽ ദൃശ്യമാധ്യമ അവാർഡ്- മനുഷ്യാവകാശ മാധ്യമപ്രവർത്തന വാർത്തകൾ ദേശീയതലത്തിൽകൂടി എൻട്രികൾ ക്ഷണിച്ചായിരിക്കും അവാർഡ് നൽകുന്നതെന്ന് ബോധിഗ്രാം-ബി ആർ പി മാധ്യമപുരസ്‌കാര സമിതി ചെയർപേഴ്സൺ ജെ എസ് അടൂർ, സെക്രട്ടറി അനിൽകുമാർ പി വൈ എന്നിവർ അറിയിച്ചു
